Each Term will find the Explorers working on new integrated curriculum enabling them to increase their skill levels while having fun. All projects

CLASSTIME

The 90 minute class time will be structured as follows:

15 minutes - DEAR - Drop Everything and Read
5 minutes - timed writing on computer
10 minutes - keyboarding practice

30 minutes - lecture and class discussion
30 minutes - computer research/worksheets

Keyboarding skills are critical to a student's success in later academic years. Here at RMS we believe that practice makes a better typist.

Students will be assessed in the beginning of the term for their keyboard skill level and will work towards increasing their speed and accuracy throughout the year. Each year the expected Words per Minute increases.

Students will be encouraged to practice by receiving bonus points for each 5 WPM increase in speed and accuracy assessed during the formal keyboarding test given twice each term. Students will be able to track their progress daily.

Should a student MASTER the target WPM at any time while demonstrating proper keyboard technique, they will be excused from further testing.

Students will work individually, with partners, and in teams throughout the year to foster better communication and team building skills. Software applications covered in this year-long course include Word, PowerPoint, Paint, Excel, and Publisher.
