In an effort to encourage independent reading
among our students, we have begun a “Reading
Counts!” program at our school.
What
is Reading Counts?
Reading Counts is a software program which quizzes students
over the content of books. As they pass the quizzes, students
accumulate points. Incentives are awarded to students
who have earned points on Reading Counts! Some of the
Reading Counts rewards that students have earned already
this year already include:
A
movie social with refreshments
Free footballs and basketballs
Free tickets to see a Miami Heat basketball game
How
does my child identify Reading Counts books?
Ms. Johnson has marked all the books in the RMS media
center that have Reading Counts quizzes available with
a green dot on the spine. There is also a binder with
the lists of Reading Counts books available for reference
in the media center. Your child’s language arts
teacher should also have a list of “Reading Counts”
books. The RMS Reading Counts quizzes are also listed
on the RMS web site so that parents and students can identify
Reading Counts books to read. The quizzes are listed alphabetically
by title, author, and lexile level.
