ATTENDANCE
POLICY
Roosevelt Middle School has an attendance recorder that is active 24 hours a day. The attendance recorder phone number is 822-0200, Ext. 8253 (Sixth Grade); Ext. 8254 (Seventh Grade); or Ext. 8255 (Eighth Grade). The parent must call and excuse the absence by 8:00 a.m. the day following the absence. It will be to the student’s advantage for the parent or guardian to call the morning of the absence. This enables teachers to be notified and allows excused students to make-up assignments. If the parent/guardian fails to call by 8:00 a.m. the following day, the absence will be classified unexcused. An absence may only be excused within two weeks of the occurrence.
It is the responsibility of the student to communicate with his or her teachers to make up work.
Out-of-school suspensions are considered unexcused absences. Suspended students are permitted to make-up nine-week exams, semester exams and major projects. RMS allows suspended students to make up missed work to a grade of “D” in order to assist the student not to fail. It is, however, the student’s responsibility to complete the assignments and return them to the teachers within the allotted time.
ATTENDANCE - TARDY POLICY
Administrative detentions will be scheduled for students who have violated the tardy policy. Administrative detentions will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, respectively, and the students’ parents/guardians will be responsible for arranging transportation. Any student assigned an administrative detention will not be allowed to take the after school activity bus home. Generally, administrative detentions will be assigned as a consequence for chronic tardies (five or more) to school in the mornings as well as chronic tardies (five or more) to class during the school day. However, if a student persists in arriving to school and/or to class tardy, an assignment to In-School-Suspension and “Parent Shadowing” shall result in accordance with the School District of Palm Beach County Matrix of Incidents and Actions.
Students must be in class and seated when the final bell rings at the beginning of each block. At the ringing of that bell, teachers lock their doors and any student not in class reports to a designated area where the student is supervised by a teacher. While there, students complete classwork, homework or other academic assignments. The only excused late arrivals to school are those attributed to District-provided transportation (bus and Tri-Rail) or documented medical appointments. Parents who transport children to school are responsible for arriving on time. In cases of emergency, when students arrive late, the parent must speak to an administrator regarding their child's admission to class.
BEEPERS/CELLULAR PHONES
Possession and use of beepers, wireless telephones and
other electronic devices on school grounds is prohibited.
These items will be confiscated.
