GETTING ORGANIZED FOR SUCCESS
Getting organized is talking about using your time so you
get chores done, homework done, studying done and have time
to play before bedtime! It’s not about spending extra
hours while you get organized.
So let’s get organized!
1. Use your Agenda Book every day and in every class. Write
down all assignments in class. Write down due dates too.
2. When you get home, dump out your backpack on your bed.
Put all papers immediately into their correct folders. Put
your folders and books on your desk or table or in your
study area.
3. Have a set homework time (look at how to study effectively).
4. Have a monthly calendar on your wall. Write down long
term projects and tests. Cross out each day before you go
to bed to help keep track of when these are due.
5. Be sure to have your folders organized as your teachers
have asked you to do. Be sure you have a divider with “homework”
written on it. Put your homework immediately in this when
you finish. Don’t just shove it into your backpack.
When you turn it in from your folder you won’t waste
time digging around looking for your assignments. Less stress
and more success!
6. Have supplies at home in your study area. Put fresh supplies
in your backpack every night. You don’t waste time
looking for a pencil and you can get your homework done
a lot faster. It isn’t about how long you do homework
but how well you do the homework.
7. Get your clothes out and ready for the next school day.
This saves you time in the morning when you are sleepy and
you don’t have to stand around deciding what to wear.
Be sure the clothes help you follow dress code (no referrals
for this) and this includes having your school I.D. in your
backpack, in a pocket, you can quickly find it and put it
on each day.
8. Keep track of your time! Plan it! What time do you get
home? How long for a snack and a break? What time do you
start and finish the homework? Remember you have dinner,
chores and maybe your bath time too. Also you need to plan
for at least nine hours of sleep to be able to do your best
at school the next day. Sit down with your parents and plan
out your “after school schedule” in order to
have time for everything. Homework can’t be thirty
minutes before you go to sleep in order to get your best
work and your best sleep. It takes organizing but you and
your family can do this!
Be sure to sign up for Edline in our Main Office at Roosevelt
Middle School. Get a list of teachers’ Voice Mail numbers
and Homework phone numbers from the Main Office too. Review
your child’s Agenda Book with your child. Note Dress
Code expectations, school calendar, phone numbers and web
sites offered to parents. Please note that our Media Center
has designated computers for parental use and staff ready
to assist you. Parent Conferences with teachers may be set
up through your child’s Team Leader (one of his/her
academic teachers). We look forward to working with you this
school year!
